With colorful Arabian architecture, crumbling ancient cities, breathtaking mountain peaks and miles upon miles of sprawling sandy deserts, Morocco is a traveler’s dream personified. The options for activities during a trip to Morocco are endless and regardless of your specific interests, it is possible to tailor-make a Morocco itinerary that perfectly suits you. If you are a culture vulture, you can enjoy wandering the narrow passageways of ancient medinas and sipping mint tea while people-watching in the Djemaa el-Fna.
Adventurous types will be blown away by Morocco’s natural beauty and the various hiking trails that are waiting to be trodden – not only in the Atlas Mountain region but also the Rif and the area surrounding the majestic Sahara.
Thanks for the information Jack. Our trip to Morocco in April went very well thanks to the great organisation of Jana at Your Morocco Tour - we had a driver to take us from city to city and then a local guide in the cities where we felt we needed one, also organised by YMT. Our driver made no attempts to guide us explaining this was not his job.In certain monuments when we were unaccompanied we were approached by people offering to guide us, some very persistently, and not obviously registered, making unpleasant situations. The advice to look like you know what you are doing is difficult when you are consulting a travel book and this seems to attract these people. We did not go to the Tangier area though.
Yes this is possible in Morocco. My wife and I did a 12 day trip during the first part of November with a family company called Trips to Morocco. They were highly recommended by many on Tripadvisor. They provide trips tailored to your needs. We started in Casablanca and finished in Agadir and went to all the imperial cities, the Middle and High Atlas, the southern oasis area and the desert including a night in the Sahara. Our tour included all accommodation (riads were wonderful) and dinners and some other expenses and included a 4 wheel drive vehicle with driver and guide. The package we negotiated was great value. Our driver spoke limited English but was very protective and had a great sense of humour and our guide spoke English and was fantastic. Both took great care of us and ensured we had a great experience. It was a wonderful trip. I can recommend highly Trips to Morocco (www.tripstomorocco.com.au). Talk to Mohammed he was very helpful and will work with you to plan a trip to meet your needs.
Its a pleasure. I have just realised the website address doesn't have an "au" on the end (my mistake sorry). Its just www.tripstomorocco.com. The email address is tripstomorocco@gmail.com. I should have also mentioned that they employ specialist guides in the imperial cities (in addition to the company guide) and the cost of these guides was included in our package (we tipped them). They were either English or history teachers and were very good. We basically only had to pay for lunches and entry fees to museums, galleries, etc which were not expensive. Its also useful to know that tipping is expected but the tips are usually very small amounts of money. Its useful to have lots of small value coins. Our guide was very good in advising us about when to tip and how much to tip.
when you buy the tours or excursions from those drivers, expect that you will get the minimum informations as they usually re-sell their “innocent” clients to an alternate inexperienced and not to one that provides the best service. At the end of the tour you usually get what you pay for! Someone contracting with one of these brokers will never be sure who is finally going to provide the service and its quality will necessarily vary from one to the other. When a problem arises, it becomes more difficult to contact the right person and resolve the situation. It is also more complicated to ask for responsibilities for errors and mistakes
Also, the only person who has the right to sell round trip ferry tickets Tarifa-Tangier-Tarifa is a travel agent and not a driver/guide! driver/guides Usually charge an advance for their bookings but aren’t allow to sell ferry tickets, the ones they do are obliged to take clients to the ferry director restaurant and fake carpet shop/tourist trap!
Having been charmed the first time, I went back again this year in Morocco to discover other treasures of this beautiful country. I went alone and I wanted again nobody else (but) Lahcen from Morocco Tour Guide as driver and guide…Lahcen made me discover the beauty of small villages and the desert.
I had the chance to meet Berber families and also enjoy an excellent meal with them. And what to say about their excellent tea and homemade pastries! A pure delight! Lahcen is proud to let us discover the culture of his country. I am a woman who was traveling alone and (at) no time, I felt insecure or unsafe in this country. Lahcen paid attention to everything. He is very conscientious, kind, responsible, careful but above all, he is an authentic person.
