(SportsNetwork.com) - The Edmonton Oilers have no hopes of spoiling the Anaheim Ducks playoff chances, but they can put a dent in their quest for the Pacific Division title. Anaheim kicked off a three-game homestand on Monday by welcoming Winnipeg to town, but the Jets were rude visitors as they went up 4-0 at the 10:54 mark of the second period. However, Anaheim was able to rally for a 5-4 overtime victory. The Ducks could have used some help from the Oilers last night, but instead Edmonton was defeated 5-4 by San Jose. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had two goals and an assist, Taylor Hall notched a goal and three assists and Jordan Eberle finished with a goal and two helpers. "We battled extremely hard," Edmonton coach Dallas Eakins said. "In my recent memory I cant remember a game where we were supporting and fighting and battling [like we did]. I liked our compete level." Ben Scrivens allowed all five goals on 33 shots in the setback. Anaheim is to 4-0-1 in its last five games and looking for its third straight victory. "We didnt have a great start [Monday vs. Winnipeg]. Being down 4-0 halfway through the game, its tough to overcome," Perry said. "But we said in here, if we keep pushing and playing that style we established in the second half of the second period, no team can play with us. Thats the way weve got to keep playing." The Ducks set a club record with their 49th win of the season, surpassing the 48-win total set by the Stanley Cup-winning 2006-07 club, and moved three points ahead of the San Jose Sharks for first place in the Pacific Division. The Sharks were able to pull back to within a point following Tuesday nights victory over the Oilers, but the Ducks have two games in hand. The Ducks and Oilers, who sit last in the Western Conference with 61 points, will wrap their season series with two meetings over the next five days. Anaheim will visit Edmonton on Sunday after concluding its homestand on Friday versus the Nashville Predators. The Ducks won their first two encounters with the Oilers this season to push their series winning streak to six in a row before the Oilers won the most recent encounter 4-3 in overtime at home on March 28. Anaheim has still won 16 of the last 19 meetings overall as well as three straight and seven of the previous nine at home. Charlotte Hornets Jerseys . They both wound up with the Kansas City Chiefs. And now that Holmes has been inducted into the franchises ring of honour, Charles plans to one day join him, his name also added to those inside Arrowhead Stadium.Me and Priest are cool, Charles said after Sundays 24-10 win over the Jets. We went to the same school. He gave me the torch. Im just happy to be a part of this organization. I came here knowing they had some great running backs and Im happy to be a part of it.At the end of my career, I hope to be in the Hall of Fame.Hard to tell whether he was referring to the franchise Hall of Fame or the one in Canton, Ohio. It might not matter, really. Theres a good chance Charles could end up in both.He had another 78 yards rushing and a touchdown against the Jets and caught two passes for 10 yards. That gives Charles 435 yards rushing and five scores at the midway point of the season, numbers that would be even better had he not missed time with a sprained ankle.Still, the perfectionist in Charles wasnt thinking about the carries and the catches that he had Sunday. He was still stuck on the one pass that he dropped in the red zone.I could have easily walked in, he said with a shake of his head.In the modern era of pass-happy offences and running backs-by-committee, Charles is a throw-back to, well, the days whenn Holmes was toting the ball for the Chiefs.ddddddddddddCharles had six carries on the opening drive Sunday and came out of the game only when he appeared to be gassed. Charles finished with a season-high 20 carries, setting the tone for the Chiefs by gouging the Jets defence with huge gains early on.Hes so dynamic, said Chiefs fullback Anthony Sherman. Whenever you get the ball in his hands, hes capable of breaking a long run. So get it to him as many times as possible.Thats a lesson that Chiefs coach Andy Reid learned early in the season. The Chiefs gave Charles only a handful of touches in a blowout loss to Tennessee, and their offence languished. The following day, after a careful review of the game film, Reid acknowledged that he was negligent in using the biggest star on his team.He hasnt made the same mistake. And while Charles has yet to go over 100 yards rushing in a game this season, his dependability has allowed Kansas City to flourish.Much to the delight of Holmes, whose franchise rushing record Charles broke earlier this season. Holmes amassed 6,070 yards rushing for the Chiefs from 2001-07, while Charles now has 6,258 yards over the course of his seven-year career.Hats off to him, Holmes said. We pride ourselves in having something to have to do with the running backs out of Texas. Not only that, but records are meant to be broken. Ive had a share of records that Ive been able to break. Its always about setting that bar a little bit further up. ' ' '
